Paula Standing & Emma Jayne
1. Paula Standing
Originality is not always finding something new to look at, often it’s finding a new way to look at the things we see everyday. Informed and impacted by the musical and personal influences on her life, Paula Standing blends these elements into a musical style that comfortably borrows inspiration from a number of sources yet strongly retains a feel that is very much her own.
There are elements of folk with sweet slices of Joni Mitchell and her childhood heroes, Simon and Garfunkel. Then to add some spice to the whole mixture there is the classically trained soprano voice blending it all together into a wonderful rich mixture.
Immersed in a sea of live music created during her family’s regular ‘front parlour’ sessions, Paula Standing continues to be impacted by the musical and personal influences in her life.
Gritty tales of truth, with a spattering of murder ballads, cloaked in an innocent country rock sound like a Linda Ronstadt and Stevie Nicks love child, luring us into a false sense of security as we become the voyeurs and she becomes the story. All else becomes silent.
Whether in the desert outback or beside the surf beaches of Australia’s substantial coastline, Paula is an established favourite amongst the Australian contemporary indie roots scene, where wry humour and warmth are as much a part of the show as her impressive vocal range and guitar combo.
2. Emma Jayne
With her dulcet tones and songs from the heart, Emma Jayne is the true essence of a singer-songwriter. Compared to the likes of Sara Bareilles and Carrie Underwood, Emma seamlessly blends folk with her own brand of Aussie pop that oozes authenticity.
After being hard at work in the studio, Emma Jayne has recently launched her much-anticipated EP “I Don’t Want To Talk”. This project features tracks including ‘Hometown’, a tribute to her small-town upbringing and “‘Til The Next Love”, a duet with rising country superstar Matt James. This EP is a culmination of Emma’s country and folk roots beautifully entwined with her more recent pop influences.
Immerse yourself in Emma’s songbook as she invites you to lean in a little bit closer.

Club Acoustica – Balhannah
Greetings, Acousticarians!
It’s nearly time for the last Club Acoustica night of 2019 – our big end-of-year revels to round off the year in fine style! So join us at the Olive Branch Café in Balhannah on Sunday 1st December to be entertained by:
* Lance Duncan, the man with the fine, dark baritone voice and the great guitar technique, playing a broad cross-section of music from Dylan and his contemporaries to traditional Scottish, Irish, Canadian and American folk songs.
* Jackie Sprott, Joost, and special guest Steven Stone, for a selection of heartfelt Americana songs and a few for the audience to sing along with as well. (We are hoping that Steven will play us something on his Greek bouzouki, too – that would be a treat!)
* Paula Standing, whose songs come from the wellspring of old, dark country and folk traditions, bringing you stories of the ordinary and everyday viewed from a new angle that can surprise. Paula’s songs have performed strongly on community radio across Australia, and she has a new Americana-flavoured album under development.
* Our old friends Stretch and Fella, with a selection of up-tempo blues, early rock and country, and a touch of folk. These guys are always sure to get your feet tapping!
In addition, we can expect to hear our resident sound engineer Kyffin Williams step out from behind the mixing desk to perform, and no doubt there’ll be some locally grown poetry shared as well.
Put it on your calendar:
Sunday 1st December, 5:45pm – 8:30(ish). FREE ENTRY.
If it were not for the Olive Branch Café, Club Acoustica would not be able to bring you the best of Adelaide Hills and South Australian talent – so please support our generous hosts by enjoying their delicious home-style food, good coffee, fine wines and beers. The East Pointers (Canada)
Redefining modern folk with chart-worthy pop hooks, deep acoustic groove, trance-like trad breakdowns and three-part harmonies, The East Pointers are a multi-award winning fiddle/banjo/guitar trio lighting a path for a new generation of music lovers who don’t care for labels. The East Pointers have always been musically complex and technically brilliant, the core is definitely traditional Celtic, but on the new album, fiddle tunes are grounded in complex rumbling bass lines, a dirty Americana exploration turns on a dime into a lighthearted guitar feature with flamenco reference palmas, playful keyboard tones turn traditional solos into urgent dance-party journeys and off-the-leash festival jam sessions. ‘One of the hottest young traditional folk bands on the planet.’ ABC
