An Oriental Flair- Eastern Harp Meets Western Strings

A world music night, presenting eastern harps (guzhengs) meeting western strings (a string quartet), with music originally arranged by our musicians. Recognised by the Adelaide Festival Centre, and recommended by them for several private events, this is a not to miss fusion of eastern and western strings performing traditional and contemporary music, presented by The School of Chinese Music.

This is a show not to be missed, especially for those exploring the transition of tradition into contemporary, from east to the west!

The School of Chinese Music & Arts was established in 2005 by Zhao Liang. Out of a passion for chinese music, she began from the humble roots of facilitating workshops and public performances. Over the past ten years, it is believed she has visited more than 200 schools in Adelaide, fascilitating workshops and performances, with several inviting her back again. In 2011 and again in 2015, Zhao has been awarded ArtsSA’s Individual Makers and Presenters’ – Professional Development grant to attend masterclasses and perform in China, Beijing. Zhao is now an artist performing on her own, or as a group. She has performed in Adelaide and interstate, as well as overseas in China. To be presented by Garage International, she will perform with students as a trio, and also an 8 piece band incorporating a string quartet and 4 guzhengs! The Multicultural Giggle/Story time is also a unique show presented by Zhao for SA locals and families, to experience some familiar tunes with an oriental flair!
