BUSH GOTHIC
Darker, stranger Australian folk
3 evenings at the Crown And Anchor.
To celebrate the release of their new album ‘The Natural Selection Australian Songbook’, Bush Gothic are bringing songs of treachery and transportation to Adelaide as part of their national tour.
Recently returned from England where The Guardian described band leader Jenny M. Thomas as an ‘edgy rising folk star’, Bush Gothic have a cult following amongst those who like their folk, but also those keen on intelligent pop and jazz. Australian performances include Mona Foma and the Adelaide Fringe where they were reviewed as ‘An evolution in traditional folk music. Outstanding.’
“Bold, inspired and beautiful in its intensity, Thomas, plus two, have taken the foundations of a folk library and built a new architecture. Bush Gothic takes your breath away.” (The National Times).
“If I get three musical discoveries of this calibre out of the hundreds of new musical experiences that come my way annually, I count myself blessed.” (JAZZWISE UK)

Bush Gothic
Darker, stranger Australian folk. Defiantly modern, achingly old, Bush Gothic sing and play what they like – there is no schism between classical and contemporary music, there is no hesitation in using Australian folk songs for artistic and cultural exploration. Their new album ‘The Natural Selection Australian Songbook’ raises the question: Are Bush Gothic outsiders, lurking on the cultural fringe? Or have they penetrated to the inner core of Australian identity? Wherever they reside these musicians understand that there is no avoiding the realities of our past – it is all laid bare in the terrible truth of our songs. Recently returned from England where The Guardian described band leader Jenny M. Thomas as an ‘Edgy rising folk star’, Bush Gothic have a cult following amongst those who like their folk, but are keen on intelligent pop and jazz as well. ‘Bold, inspired and beautiful in its intensity, Thomas, plus two, have taken the foundations of a folk library and built a new architecture. Bush Gothic takes your breath away.’ (The National Times). ‘Rescues Australian folk from the world of beards and blue jeans.’ (The Age, Melbourne).
