Eric Bogle + Fiddle Chicks
We are excited to have Eric Bogle to play at Trinity Sessions with support from the fabulous Fiddle Chicks
There’s not much good about COVID, but one good thing for us is that it means that Eric is available to play at Trinity Sessions; as opposed to his planned tour of New Zealand, shows in Victoria and some holidaying in Europe. Maybe not so good for Eric. Eric Bogle has written some songs that have pretty much become Australian classics of their particular genre and he is still penning some cracking songs, reflecting on life, politics and culture in Australia and the world. Probably his best-known song is “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”, which confirmed its iconic status by appearing as a question in the Australian version of Trivial Pursuit! Some of his other songs, “No Man’s Land”(The Green Fields of France) “Leaving Nancy”, “Now I’m Easy” “Shelter” “If Wishes were Fishes” etc. etc. are now beginning to rival “Matilda” in the icon stakes. His songs have been recorded by Joan Baez, Mary Black, Donovan, Slim Dusty, John Williamson, Billy Bragg, The Pogues and The Furies, just to name a few. He has won quite a few awards along the way including the Order of Australia medal for services to the entertainment industry, and a Peace medal from the U.N. for his efforts, through music, to promote peace and racial harmony.
Pete Titchener will be selling Eric Bogle’s CDs during the interval and putting the chairs away after the concert – he is a great guy.
After fifteen years of performing, The Fiddle Chicks are still going strong. Emma Luker (Eric Bogle band) and Dee Trewartha (The Cow Patsys) use only their fiddles, bass fiddle, stomp-boxes and vocals to create a unique musical experience for audiences throughout Australia. From their traditional and classical fiddle backgrounds they have developed their own distinctive minimalist style. Their original songs and tunes will take an audience from the fiddle’s melancholy to its energetic and highly infectious sounds!
