Unique Bush Festival celebrates the Aussie Stockman in Strathalbyn
Celebrate the history and life of the Aussie bush with the heart-stopping action of authentic stockmen and women battling it out in this 3 day national competition for the title of Legend of the Lower Lakes at this year’s:

The Lower Lakes Stockman’s Challenge & Bush Festival

This festival of our Aussie heritage is unique in South Australia and is a chance for everyone, young and old, to experience the life of days gone by with all the fun of the fair and tastes of the Fleurieu only 45 minutes from the city. Visitors will enjoy the many food, wares, wines and entertainment on offer with the camp oven cooking and motorbike action, including a Harley Davidson display, a surprising highlight. There’s animals to meet, rides and face painting for the kids and entry is free for 8 and under.

The fun doesn’t stop for 3 days with live music to keep the party going into the night on Friday and Saturday. The festival is in its fourth year and 2016 sees the welcome addition of camping facilities on site. Visitors can even hire an authentic Aussie swag for one or two or a traditional canvas bell tent for a group to take advantage of this rare opportunity to experience the fabled bush lifestyle.

This high-energy event will have you gaping in delight. You will see explosive whip cracking, cornering a cow where there are no corners, bareback riding obstacle course, jumping and more – and that’s only the preliminaries! Sunday sees all the finals action with the Heritage Horse Catch and Poley Saddle Rough Riders strutting their stuff.

‘This event is one of a kind here in SA and is getting bigger and better every year with fabulous support from local businesses, and interstate ones too. Our fabled community spirit is alive and well! The festival attracts hundreds of people to Strathalbyn and our competitors come from all over Australia. The Challenge really gives the local economy a boost, our visitors get to enjoy our grass roots heritage and proceeds support The Royal Flying Doctor Service as they’ve been supporting the people of the outback for decades. We know it’s a fabulous weekend because people are coming back every year and they’ve been asking for camping so they can dig in and party all weekend.’ – Kathy Angel, Vice President of The Lower Lakes Stockman’s Challenge.

A unique opportunity for all to experience the excitement of the skills and lifestyle of the Aussies in the outback with all the fun of the festival.
