Matthew Lykos: singer in a great shirt
Matthew Lykos, recognised by many as the inspirational
lead singer of Adelaide’s own aCapella quartet The Fishbowl Boys, and
as vocal coach of the passionate men’s chorus The Festival Statesmen,
two multi-award-winning touring ensembles, has grown up around a
culture of sharing music, story and song. This upbringing has given
him an irrepressible, engaging, and infectious passion for sharing the
joy of singing. Matthew’s passion has him involved in music festivals
and workshops as singer and instrumentalist in bands and as a soloist,
and has seen him complete a degree in classical singing.
In this one-night-only concert, the award-winning soloist will engage
with his first love, presenting his own fascinating song selections
from diverse folk repertoires, including traditional and contemporary
folk music from Ireland, England, Greece, Australia and more.
As well as Matthew’s warm character and his distinctive voice,
described as “like silk and honey with a touch of steel” and “like
being hugged”, the concert will include Matthew’s own unique
self-accompaniment on Guitar and Mandolin, the lavish chamber-folk
accompaniment of The Paisley String Orchestra; Emma Woolcock (violin),
Karen De Nardi (viola), Jakub Jankowski (cello), and Anne Harrington
(jangly, brushy and slappy percussion), and a particularly notable
shirt.
