Beloved songwriter “Skyscraper” Stan Woodhouse releases lush new album “Golden Boy vol. I and II” with national full band tour.
Revered for his piercing observational lyricism and thrilling live performance Stan has once again teamed up with long time touring band the Commission Flats and engineer/producer Richard Stolz (Paul Kelly, HUSKY) to create a rollercoaster of a record.
Following on from 2015’s Last Year’s Tune, Golden Boy is tender, angry, introspective and political over the course of its 10 tracks. Split into two 5 track volumes the full length LP first tackles themes of privilege, masculinity, crime and ambition before moving into an introspective and autobiographical exploration of lessons learned (or not).
Driven by Stan’s intricate lyrics and underpinned by the dynamic Commission Flats, Golden Boy flies between such disparate influences as Stax era soul, Melbourne post-punk, Tin-pan Alley songwriters and rambling folk tales – a menagerie of mismatched musical muses coalescing into something unique, melodic and unexpected.
Over July and August Skyscraper Stan and the Commission Flats are touring Golden Boy through VIC, NSW, SA, QLD, WA and NZ with fifteen opportunities around Australasia to see this songwriter and band at the top of their game.
Elli Belle is a singer-songwriter from Adelaide whose career started when she hitch-hiked to Darwin with her guitar in 2014. She booked her first gig at Music NT’s annual Music Industry Conference in Alice Springs, met Melbourne-based producer, Anna Laverty and together recorded her debut EP.
Since then she has received extensive airplay, to the likes of Triple J and national community radio stations. She has also supported notable acts such as Thelma Plum, Declan O’Rourke, Jack Carty and James Morrison. Elli has played at music venues and festivals across Australia and Europe, and earned her spot as a finalist in the NT Song of the Year Awards two years in a row.
Elli Belle’s indie folk tunes combine thoughtful lyrics, soulful melodies and a unique voice of impressive range. Her use of acoustic and electric guitar is both ambient and powerful. She is a captivating performer.
