After their sensational and successful album launch for their 5th studio album Still Life earlier this year The Baker Suite are coming back to share their beautiful sounds in the near perfect setting (being modest here) of Trinity Sessions.
To make this concert even more of a must see Julian Ferraretto (the Baker’s famed violinist) and Karen De Nardi (Vincent’s Chair, Aurora Strings) are putting together a special string section to open the evening and play with the Baker Suite – sweeeet!!! Plus the beautiful voice of Elizabeth McCall.
The Baker Suite are John Baker (guitar/vocals) and Gayle Buckby (accordion, vocals), and are often joined by musicians Julian Ferraretto (violin), John Aue/Lyndon Gray (double bass), and Enrico Mick Morena (drums). They have been delighting audiences with their cinematic storytelling for over 12 years.
The story of the background and making of the album ‘Still Life’ is captured here:
As music swims through your veins and transcends your livelihood it becomes your soul, lifeblood, and equally your escape. In early 2015 friends and family rallied around Gayle Buckby and John Baker of The Baker Suite as their life expectedly changed.
As they transitioned their lives around the new reality of living with John‘s cancer, their friends, Chris Parkinson (The Yearlings / My Sweet Mule Studio) and Jim Redgate (Luthier of John’s guitars / Loud Tie Studio) did something quite exquisite; they transformed John and Gayles house into a recording studio – when you can’t go to the party, bring the party to you.
Over the following year Still Life was delicately pieced together in-between chemotherapy sessions and hospital visits, and what resulted is a beautifully crafted ten-track LP reflecting beauty and humanity. Every song reveals passionate and thoughtful arrangements that reveal life’s tender and whimsical moments, as innate personal realities are laid bare.
“Harks back to great writers such as James Taylor, Jimmy Webb, Carole King and Burt Bacharach.” Paul Grabowsky
‘Minor masterpieces that blend folk, country, blues and jazz speckled with global allusions sit beside quirky pop songs suggestive of Paul Simon’. The Australian, 4 stars****
‘Like a Hemingway novel…full of romance and stories that contain truth, beauty and intrigue in equal measure’. Kate Ceberano
