The East Pointers (Canada) at South Coast Folk Club

The East Pointers are turning up the heat on their
Australian tour, announcing new dates in ACT, NSW, WA, SA, TAS and
VIC. The growing tour will see the band play at over 25 festivals and
venues across the country, including South Coast Folk Club (exclusive
appearance).Ontario guitarist Jake Charron and 7th generation Prince
Edward Island musicians Tim (fiddle) and Koady Chaisson (banjo) make
traditional music seem ridiculously hip. An adrenalized,
roof-rattling, performance monster, the trio’s excellent debut album
Secret Victory, penned mostly in Australia in early 2015, features the
beautiful songs, free-wheeling, feisty instrumental jigs, stomps and
reels and heart-breaking harmonies have made them torchbearers for a
new wave in traditional music.
Returning to Australia in December 2015 the band played to huge
crowds at Woodford Folk Festival, becoming the highest selling act at
the festival two years running, performing at the massive Amphitheater
venue ahead of Courtney Barnett and bringing in the New Year at the
festival’s largest venue. They’ve since gone on to get crowds to
their feet and dancing at Cygnet Folk Festival, Illawarra Folk
Festival, Sydney’s The Gaelic Club and at venues across regional
Tasmania as part of the Small Halls Tour.
“The East Pointers, a three-piece jigs-and-reels band from Canada,
have this way of over-revving their engine to implosion point and
then, just before the musical catastrophe eventuates, they re-lease
the handbrake and their machine screams off with heart-stopping
momentum. You see it as much as hear it, because at that exhilarating
moment when banked-up pressure converts into raw artistic energy,
biblical numbers of people are transformed into ground-stomp-ing,
elated dervishes, sending a swirling cloud of dust so high that it
resembles a primal geological event. Nice one, Woodford.” (The
Australian)”.
