The Young Sequoias Present ‘Electric Delta’

Will Kallinderis and Matt Colyer of The Young Sequoias celebrate Mississippi Delta blues, featuring songs by Mississippi Fred McDowell, Howlin’ Wolf, Junior Kimbrough, RL Burnside and other greats.

The Mississippi Delta blues sound is characterised by an emphasis on vamps and droning single chord rhythms usually accompanied with harmonica and drums. The Young Sequoias will get you moving to these infectious rhythms along with their raw and gritty original boogie woogie, finger picking and bottleneck slide that’s bound to bring the tin shed down at the Wheaty!!

Book online before June 15 for earlybird discount.

The Young Sequoias have been building up an increasingly compelling repertoire of infectious grooves, funky soulful originals, and renditions of various popular delta blues classics. Formed in 2018, The Young Sequoias are Will Kallinderis, vocals, guitar and harmonica and Matt Colyer, drums, percussion and bass. Featuring a style that is highly intuitive, feeding off each other’s dynamics – Will’s upbeat guitar and harmonica together with Matt’s catchy rhythms creating a surprisingly full sound from a two piece act. In 2017, Will filled in for Chris Finnen playing harmonica in Cal Williams Jr’s sold out Fringe show ‘A History Of Early Blues’. The success of the shows lead to the two of them teaming up with Kory Horwood on double bass performing regularly at festivals and shows.
